Glasgow City Heritage Trust is hosting an exhibition about the city's legacy of Brutalist buildings. The exhibition, curated by Rachel Loughran, is based around the specially created graphics by illustrator Nebo Peklo (Natalie Tweedie) and links to texts by Owen Hatherley, Miles Glendinning, Rory Olcayto, Johnny Rodger, Diane Watters and me. The essays are supplemented by fascinating stories from community contributors and building occupiers.
I was asked to write about the University's (now demolished) Pontecorvo Building, designed as a genetics institute by Basil Spence in 1957. Although not strictly Brutalist (expressed in raw concrete), the building was an early towerblock in the University's estate.
The exhibition runs daily from Monday 16 September – Sunday 22 September 2024, then Wednesday to Friday weekly until 25 October, plus weekend opening 26th & 27th October.
10am – 4pm
Glasgow City Heritage Trust, 54 Bell Street, Glasgow, G1 1LQ
